Ask any fashion devotee about what makes a Louboutin THE Louboutin and chances are, they’ll skip the heels, the sexy straps and the vivid colors. The Red Sole will be the equivocal reply, and thus was the style foundation of one of the world’s most loved and desired brand. Even Sex and The City would have been incomplete without them making appearance after appearance.
Those famous soles are now in the courtroom, literally, as Christian Louboutin filed a case against another fashion giant Yves Saint Laurent for trademark infringement. The lawsuit was filed over four shoes in the Yves Saint Laurent Cruise 2011 collection: the Tribute, Taboo, Palais and Woodstock models.
Judge Victor Marrero of Federal District Court in Manhattan ruled out, sadly for Louboutin, that the soles qualified for such a degree of trademark preservation which would disenable any other brand to produce shoes with red under-linings.
Louboutin’s lawyer, Harley Lewin, told Agence France-Presse: “We are profoundly disappointed at the judge’s decision. We are currently evaluating all alternatives.”
